Last year, The Glove Project was one of our chosen year group charities and over the course of the academic year, students raised £1,252 through a variety of activities and events.

David Grimshaw from the charity visited King James to talk to students about the charity’s mission and how our fundraising efforts made a real difference. The Glove Project works in partnership with rural village communities in The Gambia to reduce poverty, promote education, improve health, support enterprise, provide safe drinking water and support child amputees.

David explained that many Glove Project initiatives, such as the Solar Water Systems project, are based on sustainability, so it’s not about just giving money, but about helping rural villages to become more self sufficient and giving them the means to be able to do more for themselves. Students have worked hard throughout the year to organise and take part in fundraising events to support the charity, so it was inspiring for them to hear direct from a representative that their efforts are changing lives.
